The 2016 Porsche 911 vintage unveils new dress, recognizable mainly by modified taillights and tailpipes. Its unique supercharged engine also breathes fire.
2016 Porsche 911 Overview
In more than 50 year career, the Porsche 911 was able to move with the times. It fits, including the need to reduce its thirst. Downsizing forces, its six-cylinder boxer engine thus sees its down to three liters. In contrast, the combustion chambers now gobbling air is already compressed, as the Carrera compromised by turbo. Or rather turbos, since there are two. The Porsche 911 “basic” do so more freely aspire, but do not have right to be called Turbo, or the variable geometry compressors most expensive of 911 carrera. Smaller and simpler, the two units, however, are enough to infuse more life: sport and gaining 20 hp. Carrera then passes to 370 horsepower, while the S version is 420 on offer, with a surplus of 60 Nm of torque, respectively 450 and 500 Nm. With the breath of turbos in the back, the Carrera and Carrera S win 0.2 s acceleration (3.9 to 4.2 s) and reach up to 295 or 308 km / h. Technically, the differences between the two versions are minor. And turbos of different exhaust and an adapted engine management, and voila. Despite this muscle gain, the combined fuel consumption is reduced to one liter Carrera S, 7.7 liters (- 0.8 / 7.4 liters for the Carrera, all data are valid for versions with PDK and Sport Chrono Package).

But that’s not all. Carrera was inspired by his older sisters and famous Manettino of Ferrari to further boost its behavior. With the optional Sport Chrono Package, a button on the steering wheel lets you select Normal, Sport, Sport Plus or Individual. In addition, the command “Sport Response” conditions the engine management and transmission with double clutch to mobilize the power as quickly as possible for 20 seconds. Less gadget, the PASM damping control is standard, and the Porsche Carrera S has even entitled to Rear-wheel steering as an option. The ten seconds for the 911 wins on a trip to the Nurburgring (with a beautiful time of 7m30) come probably developed this hindquarters. More daily practice, the Porsche can also raise its nose 4cm via the push of a button, to avoid rubbing on sidewalks and speed bumps. Note also the multimedia system with touch screen updated, integrating navigation and voice control, and Apple carplay device. With respect to any changes in its content, very little 911 adjusts its container. Projectors adopt a new lighting signature, the “barbecue” on the bonnet inherited a different fence, tail raised and new exhaust outlets must be sufficient to distinguish it. As usual, it is therefore an evolution rather than a revolution.
