The New York Motor Show is the event chosen by Audi to present the new R8 Spyder world premiere. All the technology of the new project of the two-seater has been transferred on the Spyder variant, which remains faithful to the soft top and the glass rear window that can be opened. The roof can be moved in 20 seconds up to a speed of 50 km / h, while the frame space frame of aluminum and carbon fiber, with specific reinforcements, has allowed to improve the torsional stiffness of 50% compared to the previous generation, keeping the weight under quota 1,612 kg.
As happened for the Coupé, even the R8 Spyder will be offered only with the aspirated V10 engine. This is the 5.2-liter FSI with 540 hp in the variant and 540 Nm of torque, coupled with four-wheel drive and the S tronic dual-clutch seven-speed. In this configuration, the R8 Spyder is capable of touching 318 km / h going from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds. To enhance even more driving pleasure, the “voice” of the V10 can be amplified by opting for the optional sports exhaust, recognizable by the glossy black tailpipes. Despite the performance, the R8 Spyder is also relatively efficient, with an average consumption of 11.7 l / 100 km and 277 g / km, a result also obtained with the “sailing” mode of the automatic transmission provided at a constant speed.
The driver can intervene on the settings of all the driving systems via Audi drive select: four programs are available, to which are added the three settings offered by opting for the sports steering wheel with built-in hand lever. The dashboard is identical to that of the R8 Coupé and Audi uses the Virtual Cockpit with 12.3-inch screen that replaces both the traditional instrumentation that the infotainment system screen, offering a fully customizable 3D graphics and the full integration of the functions of MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch. For the first time on the Spyder are also offered the Audi Phone Box, LTE connection, the Audi connect services and the audio system from Bang & Olufsen with integrated speakers in the headrests to optimize efficiency even with the roof open.
